Behind the Scenes: Six Hours in Front of the Camera

I recently went looking for an empty notebook and found something even better—a collection of photographs from different moments in my past.

This photograph brought back a particularly memorable day. I was at Magilla Entertainment, where I spent nearly six hours in front of the camera for a new television joint venture with Dick Wolf Productions—the company behind Law & Order and many other well-known television programs.

People usually see only the finished interview, which might amount to a few minutes on television. What they don’t see are the hours spent under bright lights, the cameras and equipment surrounding you, the repeated questions, the pauses, the waiting, and everything else happening behind the scenes.

Six hours in front of a camera requires more than simply answering questions. It takes patience, focus, and the ability to remain mentally and emotionally present throughout the entire process.

When the conversation involves my work as a psychic medium and criminal intuitive, I also feel a responsibility to choose my words carefully. These are not fictional stories created for television. The cases can involve real people, grieving families, unanswered questions, and events that have changed lives forever.

Looking at this photograph today reminds me of how many unusual and unexpected experiences this work has brought into my life. At the time, I was simply focused on doing the work in front of me. Years later, I can look back and recognize how each experience helped shape the person and professional I am today.

I found several photographs tucked inside that notebook, so I think it may be time to share more of these stories—little pieces of my past and some of what truly happened behind the scenes.
